The Council of Canadians is actively campaigning to have the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan divest from for-profit water services in Chile.

We have launched this campaign because water is a human right and a public resource. Privatization restricts access to water – a vital life resource – to those who can afford to pay for it.

While in Cochabamba for the Peoples World Climate Change Conference, we met with Sara Larrain of the Sustainable Chile Program (Programa Chile Sustentable), who brought this issue to our attention.

To find out more about our campaign, please go to http://www.canadians.org/OTPP/.

If you are a teacher or former teacher, please sign the petition calling on the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to divest from private water in Chile, which is also available at the web-link noted above.

We will be maintaining the momentum on this campaign by meeting with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) shortly after we return to Canada.
