The Call Out:
G20 Defendants Challenge “No Demonstration” Condition
Come support Mandy Hiscocks and Alex Hundert in their challenge of the ‘no demonstration’ condition.
This Thursday at the Ontario Superior Court at 361 University in Toronto, Amanda Hiscocks and Alex Hundert will appearing in court where they will be representing themselves in their bail review challenge of the so called “no demonstration” bail condition.
The wording of the bail condition states that they should “not plan for, assist in planning for, attend at or participate in any public demonstrations.” Since these conditions were first handed down last July, a Justice of the Peace has ruled that a demonstration should be understood as meaning any “public meeting… expressing views on a political issue.”
Mandy and Alex will be contesting the constitutionality of a bail condition that has been used to prevent G20 defendants from exercising their freedoms of speech, expression and assembly; effectively barring them from participating in their own communities.
The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has filed an application to intervene in the case, and will also be arguing against the “no demonstration” condition.
