Someone should nominate him

Man flies balloon-powered lawn chair over Calgary

Daniel Boria was charged Sunday after flying over the Calgary Stampede grounds.

He should have included a flight control system.

Reminds me of the dude in the pixar movie Up   Laughing

The question is, should he be nominated for the Order of Canada, or for a Darwin award?

Slumberjack

Well, he made it so that puts him out of contention for a Darwin award.

I'm sure he's still in the running for a cease-and-desist order, if not an Order of Canada.

But isn't this a bit derivative?  Didn't some American dude do this decades ago?

Probably but our lawn chair travellers prepare for their trip on better grass! Laughing

Our health care system will cover his broken foot.  Sealed

Anyway our Canadian lawn chair traveller I suppose, beats the guy who set a firecraker off on his head and died in Maine, trying to celebrate the 4th of July, although not impressed with our traveller's comments, about trying to get a temporary foreign worker to come here to break the law.

This might be a boon for the sport of sky diving though.  No need to shell out for an expensive ride aloft in an airplane or helicopter.  What about skydiving weddings?  You can tie enough balloons together for the whole wedding party, and provide lawn chairs for the guests!

According to the link, buddy spent $12,000 on the helium.

Slumberjack

How does that compare with other means of conveyance? Is there a bulk discount available on helium for parties in excess of one?

FWIW, helium supplies, globally, are dwindling.  It's just not one of those things that can by created by a chemical reaction, and once helium is released into the atmosphere it disappears.

Even if $12k per trip were a reasonable price, we could expect the cost to inflate far faster than the cost of gas.

Not to be alarmist, but evidently we're at "PEAK HELIUM!"
