By the same logic, would parents that gave their child up for adoption also be required to owe child support as well?
I believe that child support is something that is owed to the child, not the mother. If so, how can the mother give away that right of the child?
She cannot, by herself.
However, when a court makes an adoption order, if she has given up the child for adoption, she ceases to be the mother and is no longer liable for child support.
I take it you would argue that the father remains the father until a step-father adopts. And that's true, for normal fathers.
Good luck trying to extend that to sperm donors.
