There is some great insight here into what caused the financial crisis, and how to deal with it (apparently the Obama administration isn't really listening, and/or they just don't get it). One issue discussed is that of "proprietary trading" where trades are made not for customers of the banks, but for the banks themselves. It also discusses how the banks lend to each other in order to speculate.
