Downtown Eastside Women's March for Housing

| June 14, 2009

Today was the third annual march for housing organized by the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre.

More than 200 Downtown Eastside residents and supporters stopped traffic for several minutes at Main and Hastings demanding:

  • - Social Housing, Childcare, and Healthcare for all!
  • - No more Evictions and No more Condos in the DTES!
  • - People Before Olympic Profits!
  • - Stop Criminalizing the Poor!

The marchers angry at the lack of support for housing by all three levels of government, wove their way through the streets of the Downtown Eastside with song, speeches and demonstrating both their right to housing and equality, and their right to be a community.

Here are a few images from the day.
