heading out 1

It is early in the morning on Tuesday, February 14. Day 10 of our travel. I am lying on the bench at the train station in Moosonee. I feel totally exhausted.

The yurt-warming party was great, the kids played games, we served tea and cookies. There was a brief ceremony (no drum, they were away in Moosonee). There were over 40 people there.

We gave the keys to the Chief. A group of kids sat around the propane heater and told ghost stories.

Wonderful evening.

We got back to the motel, and shortly after learned that someone had broken into the yurt. Two kids were identified. Yves requested a chance to talk with them but they were not to be found.

Unfortunately, we had to leave the yurt boarded up. I tried to leave a positive temporary message on the plywood.

If anything, this means the community needs more support.

I am taking the train to Cochrane and then to Huntsville.

Back on the ice road

Yves must stay to board the truck on the train. Steve and Cory are traveling back today as well.

More reflections when I get home.
