Anti-choice nutjobs at Dufferin/St. Clair in Toronto today

Gross. I just got back from going to the store and the fruit market with my son, and this is what we encountered on EVERY CORNER of Dufferin and St. Clair, blocking bus stops and handing out anti-choice literature:

Interesting. Almost all the signs are being held by men. Masturbation kills children, too.

Hey, that would be a fun counter-protest sign. Let the Flanders wannabes try to explain to their kids what "masturbation" means.

And yes, this is what a friend who came with us, and I were talking about too. Most of the signs were held by men, although there were a number of women there too. But it was clear that the event was being led by men, including a priest on the NE corner.

And on the new streetcar tracks that aren't open yet, a group of three teenaged boys were kibbitzing around like any kid would - and holding a sign. And I thought, you little brats, like you ever have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy, right?

I knew lots of kids from Catholic high schools. They fucked just as much as we did. They just didn't learn how to do it safely like we did.

I felt so helpless, walking my son past this, because I didn't have time to do anything like run home and make counter-protest signs.

So I settled for making very audible comments to my son about how important reproductive rights are for women, and how important it is that every child is a loved, wanted child. And, of course, to take pictures of them.

Actually, another fun counter-protest would be to stand among them, pretending to be with them, with signs that say stuff like:

"Stop Abortion: Have Anal Sex Instead"

"Stop Abortion: Have Oral Sex Instead"

(or to be really crude)
"Stop Abortion: Swallow It Instead"

"Masturbation kills: Every Sperm Is Sacred"

"Stop Abortion: Have Gay Sex Instead"

I happened to travel South on the Dufferin bus today, getting off at St. Clair. They had also taken over all corners of Dufferin and Eglinton. It may be a more general thing all over. Not sure if it's International anti-Women Day, or if it's localized to this part of town.

I think every day is International Anti-Woman Day. I like the idea of counter-picketing....all the ideas above are great! Maybe some sort of inter-species sex would help...

I think it has to do with this:Pro-life conference coming to Toronto

quote:

Close to 500 people are expected at an upcoming international pro-life conference in Toronto.

The conference, entitled “Creating a Culture of Life Around the Globe,” will run from Oct. 2 to 4, and is sponsored by Campaign Life Coalition.

*snip*

A political panel will...feature two Ontario MPs: Liberal MP Tom Wappel and Conservative MP Jeff Watson.

How about this?

quote:

Douglas said there is a parallel between the anti-slavery and pro-life movements since both campaigns have faced similar types of opposition and share a tenacity in continuing their struggle despite obstacles along the way.

Here ya go Sir Liver, a fine example of your CPC wanting to control the lives of women:

They really, really believe it's murder. It's hard to comprehend. Have they contemplated what it's like to be a terrified teenager? Do any of them have teenage daughters? If so, would they advise her to stay unhappily pregnant?

How do they feel about the Plan B pill? Is that abortion too? It's kind of the thin edge of the wedge. If they ever won this battle (which they won't), birth control would be next. And if then won that one too, eventually it would be illegal for sexually mature females to walk around without carrying a fetus.

Interesting issue to put your heart into. Where do they stand on starvation, I wonder? I guess as long as you get born, then you're on your own. Dimwits.

Added: " ... there is a parallel between the anti-slavery and pro-life movements ..."

Indeed, there is. Both spring from the same instinct but from different directions: the desire to oppress minorities.

They were at Yonge and Dundas too. I matter of factly told one of them that the greatest cause of death of child-age bearing women in several South American countries was death by botched abortion and she just stared at me blankly.

The only silver lining of that disgusting display is seeing the St-Clair streetcar line actually getting built!

I remember a similar Pro-Life-Sentence conference in Mtl eons ago, and they were massed around Universitй du Quйbec! I was passing by and intent on post-birth abortion on at least one of the fuckers. I was about to grab their leaflets and signs and then ... a voice , "it's ok (lagatta), it's us". Bunch of lefties counterprotesting.

Mike said he saw me coming "(lagatta) is on automatic pilot!"

Star Spangled C...

I was at a conference this past weekend (still here actually) at McMaster med school in Hamilton, ON (nothing to do with abortion) and there must have been 250 people lining the street in front of the hospital with anti-abortion signs. They all looked incredibly young for the most part so I'm guessing they were mcMaster students.
