We complain about our healthcare system all the time. Not because we hate it, but because we love it and want it to be even better.
We get to marry whoever we want providing they're of legal age to consent.
We can smoke medical marjuana.
We argue a lot but we're pretty civilized about it for the most part, because deep down, we kind of like each other, even when we don't agree.
Hmmmm I think that's about all, for a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. [img]smile.gif" border="0[/img] I'm not sure how you get around if you don't all have snow shoes, but then, you probably don't stray too far from the igloo in the winter. Which is basically 10 months out of the year, right? haha. I acutally live further north than some of you Canadians, so I know better than to believe all the stereotypes. Especially the one about your beer being better. heh heh.
And no, Slumberjack-- I haven't ever met Burton Cummings. But I'm curious, do you know John from Toronto? [img]wink.gif" border="0[/img]

We do, however, contribute greatly to global warming by driving our kids all over the landscape in the middle of winter blizzards so their team doesn't forfeit a minor league hockey game. That might also be a male pride thing, except that most of the mad drivers are hockey moms.
So, although Sarah Palin is clearly no Hilary Clinton, some of us do have a twinge of sympathy for pit bulls with lipstick. I've met more of them than I can count at our local rink. Outside the rink, they're mostly very intelligent and sensible. Except when driving through blizzards . . .

I live further north than folks in Montreal and Toronto, and I have not only snowshoes but also a skidoo. And a chain saw, log splitter, many axes, and a wood-burning furnace. We have two seasons here: winter and not-quite-winter.

I write occasionally for rabble, occasionally for the prairie dog and for Canadian Dimension. Well I call BS, why do the new members have low numbers?
Try this on for size though it's just speculation. During the development and testing they wanted to be able to add new members on the new site who weren't members on the old one. But they still wanted to allow people to join the old site right up to the changeover and have all those members come in when they moved the database over without any duplication. So the code that translated the old site's database added 1000 to everyone's ID number which effectively reserved the first 1000 ids for testing on the new site until the change. Of course 1000 was way more than they needed but in circumstances like that any experienced developer leaves way more room than he'll need. Now as each new person joins, she'll be assigned the next available number which will be a low one until that reaches 1000. Then it'll jump to the end of the numbers currently used.

A million appologies, American Woman. Sometimes... my humour is dry. David Frum (more's the pity) is not a comedian. His mummy was a jounalist with the CBC, and he married well in the newspaper business. This catapulted him into an unearned limelight, of sorts, in what passes for right wing discourse in Canada and in the United States. So much so, he got hired as one of George W. Bush's speech writers, and suposedly coined the phrase "axis of evil". Subsequent to that, Frum was fired, which in a classy move, he blamed on his wife.
Being fired as a speech writer by a man who can't speak, is a level of ineptitude that should from now on be eponymous.
Unfortunately, Mr. Frum is not hard to catch these days, doing Post Mortems on the Republican Party, as a expert pundit on T.V. shows that, apparently, don't know him that well.
Again, sorry for being such a tease. You can call me names if you like. In fact, you could say I deffinately "Frummed" this attempt at welcoming.
