On July 19, 1979, the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional entered Managua shortly after the flight of U.S. puppet Anastasio Somosa. This act - the culmination of a decade of victories over imperialism and colonialism around the world - was neither the beginning nor the end of the struggle of the Nicaraguan people for freedom. But I can tell you from personal memory that it sure felt great, and I thought I'd invite everyone to commemorate that historic occasion today.

Found myself looking at some old photos from my trip there in 1986...brought back some wonderful memories.
Was also in El Salvador...and it was sort of a "before the revolution" and "after the revolution" experience.
There was a real "energy" there at the time...and you could feel it in the air...despite all of the hardships of hyper-inflation caused by the Reagan administration's contra war.
Thirty years later, the FSLN is back in power. But the FSLN of today is not the FSLN of long ago.
