Quote:
Of deep concern is a cavalier attitude representative of irresponsibility that pops up every once in awhile. If human beings are going to experiment with the building blocks of life, of food itself, it is a serious responsibility. Farmers must take it seriously.

Farmers, as well as all GMO players have to be prepared to build boundaries, to respect those boundaries, and to protect those boundaries. Food boundaries must be separated from /industrial/commodity boundaries. Farmers are the first primary link in the GMO chain that can, and should insist upon integrity, on abiding by the rules, on being accountable. We must show respect for doubt and skepticism. We must publicly rebuke infractions, and we have a moral as well as a legal obligation to do so.

To try and "spin" the legitimacy of GMO flax entering a market it should not be in, (whether it is or not is immaterial), and to try to justify that the importing country's LEGAL unease is unjustified and therefore should be disregarded, is not, in my mind, a path Western Canadian farmers can be proud of, or can sustain.

The EU flax market does not exist at or for the pleasure of Canada.
