I think it would be even more interesting to see a chart based on the use and abuse of real stuff like oil, water, food and labour.
Money, after all, is everything and nothing at the same time.
The fact the attention paid to some of these expenditures is out of whack with their relative amount isn't all that surprising, since money is such a artificial thing, depressing though it is.

Reminds me of a stat I read aboud a decade ago - Harper's Index, I think it was - that the three largest markets in the world were oil. heroin and money.
