After Osama Bin Laden's Death

Fidel, that is the silliest of notions.  You can't tell me (with a straight face, at least) that W wouldn't have given his right arm to have OBL killed while W was still in office.

I have every reason to believe Obama when he said to CBS that bin Laden "will not walk this earth again."

But, you go ahead and believe whatever you want...

Anonymouse

He also accidentally called Osama...Obama.

Anonymouse

What a foolish gaffe.

ghoris

Well, to be fair, so did Faux News.

Oh wait, you said "accidentally". Wink

Slumberjack

They're going to be widely shouted down at any rate by the various propaganda bureaus performing their respective corporate ventriloquist routines.  All that ex-NDP weasel squirming around on Solomon's program had to offer in his defence, instead of joining in with the other goons in the skit, was to say that this is a country that brought us WMD in Iraq, Nigerian yellowcake, Globalized Torture Incorporated, etc.  Canadians died at the twin towers and on the ground in Afghanistan as well, yadda yadda.  Would it hurt to cough up a pic?  Instead we were treated to a snickering amateur hour full of clowns and idiots, and no one with a clue about fighting back.  But yes, the biggest idiot in the entire debacle was Mulcair for not having the presence of mind to think it through.

Fidel

Sven it doesn't matter to you what I believe, I'll admit. I think, though, that this and other serious issues should matter a whole lot to you and your's. For instance, what you had in Iraq were CIA and special forces versus reg forces all searching for WMD. Everytime the reg forces guys came close to speaking with key people in Saddam's regime about WMD, they were thwarted and people bumped off left and right over there. They didn't have WMD, and they didn't have Qaeda and other extremist groups pouring into Iraq until after the US Military setup shop.

Sven what you have are US Gov't and Military officials saying you've got some real wackos in high places and fully believing it's their job to do a Judas of things in the Middle East and Central Asia in order to bring about the biblical "battle of Armageddon". The wack jobs don't really believe in that mumbo jumbo, or perhaps they do, I can't possibly know. But we can bet that they do believe in naked imperialism and that they are above abiding by international law. Serious issues for Americans. And this is a seriously progressive left wing forum for commentary. We here tend not to accept whatever it is your dubya or any other cosmetic leader has to say off the cuff without scrutiny. And again, it's your own countrymen providing the scrutiny and blowing whistles not me or anyone else here.

Believe what you want about OBL. I believe he was dead years ago. I have no proof of that, no. But I am not able to conclude that he's just been murdered by some special forces guys either. It's a possibility I guess. I have no real reason to believe it though. We can go only so far with accepting articles of faith as irrefutable fact. Letting the facts speak for themselves is a good rule of thumb in any event.

Slumberjack

It's a pretty good rule of thumb in fact to take every official statement down there with a grain of salt unless clear evidence is provided.  With a continual succession of historical lies to their credit, it's getting to the point where I'm starting to believe the Spanish had nothing at all to do with the Maine.

knownothing knownothing's picture

HE should just say, "That was not intended to be a factual statement"

knownothing knownothing's picture

It pisses me off when I hear Jack praising Barack Obama. He has done nothing except start more wars give out more tax cuts allow the destruction of Unions and many other terrible things, it is about time someone took a stance, I mean the US trained and armed Bin Laden

If I were an enterprising journalist doing my job properly, I might want to point out the fact that Harper admitted to Mansbridge during the campaign that his biggest mistake as leader was supporting the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and he went on to say that what he learned from it, essentially, was not to unquestioningly accept information supplied to the government on these matters.

He was just another cosmetic leader, Sven. He wasn't in control. Don't be so naive. What you have is one single party representing the superrich in America and pretending to be two separate and opposed political parties. They are both bought and paid-for, owned and controlled by the US elite. Your country officially became a military dictatorship in 1947 with the signing of the National Security Act. And this country up here gradually drifted from being a British outpost to a US-controlled one. Harper has his instructions to spend on F-35s, and that's what he will do at the expense of social democracy and the economy here. Our own corrupt stooge is just toady to a vicious empire - that's all he is.

knownothing knownothing's picture

Agreed. Lots of canadians share this view and it is time someone represented them

triciamarie

And how's this for a loony observation: as to the timing of this revelation -- if it is true that the US staged this raid now, when the ostensible object may have been long since dead -- well, didn't the US make some statement supporting the Conservatives just prior to the last election too? Of course there are lots of reasons why this is probably totally unrelated. Just sayin though.

The "death" "murder" "assassination" of Osama bin Laden was a made for TV movie. No one would buy it in a theatre near you or in real life.

Fidel

lol! I think there's gonna be a sequel: Viva las Abottabad, starring Barack Obama as Elvis bin Aladdin his self. We slay us, Pete. Too funny.

Ward

What an unprofressional gaffe!  Actually expressing something that you think. Let this be a lesson for all of us. (Or maybe we should defind to the death his right to say it.)

I'll defend it to Elvis bin Laden's last breath. And we're almost sure he's fresh out of dancing-singing movie roles this time. Even. Perhaps. More than likely. The End.

Fin!

Salut!

Bring in the dancing bears..

Or will the next false threat to US national security be extraterrestrial gladio invaders from Mars?...

Some Ruminations On Current Events   - by William Bowles

melovesproles

I teach adult international students and it's pretty much the consensus that the US is totally full of it and that the way Osama was shot instead of questioned and then dumped in the ocean ASAP is highly suspicious.  It's the kind of way you'd handle someone who had too much dirt on you.   NOT the way you deal with an international criminal linked to the #1 Boogeyman underground political organization.  That's obvious to anyone who is thinking critically.  I think this is one of those situations where the Anglosphere is very out of step with the rest of the world.  I'm sure Mulclair is just being up front about what a lot of Quebeckers think.  Anglo-Canada just has a hard time when the Master imperial narrative of theirs is questioned.

Lot's of reading in that link (thanks BTW). For sure, there is a lot of "coincidences". I find that though in my life though, how sometimes things just seem to come together. When I was 10 for some reason I put my seatbelt on, and not 30 seconds later my family was hit by a drunk driver (we were all okay thankfully).

The links between the Bush's, Saudi Oil and more are indeed troubling. However money and power do go naturally together.

I'll keep reading the links to the links you provided.

US Knew Where Osama Was Since 2005

pwr_2_da_ppl

wow, when I left this thread earlier today it was full of people buying the US GOv/ Corp.Media's fairytale version of this information. Glad to see so many critical thinkers in here now!  Fidel, Rev.now, you guys are rockin. I cannot understand how this Osama announcement is not immediately suspicious to more people, considering what has happened in the past 10 years and prior.

As for the so called NDP gaffe: I hope we are in for more honest criticism of the establishment from our new Opposition members. It would absolutely be refreshing to hear. There is a large percentage of the population who know better than to believe anything that comes out of Obama's mouth, and it's about time we started getting represented in the debate in the MSM. Who cares if Obama or the US is offended, maybe they should stop going around killing people and dumping their bodies in the ocean!

and freakin Evan Solomon better wipe the smirk off his face. We've all seen his so-called interviews with the Libs and Cons where he all but refuses to ask a decent, hard-hitting, question. He's been handing out free BJs to the plutocracy for years.

knownothing knownothing's picture

Yeah it was great to hear Mulcair say that! He actually said the words in my head before I said them!

Yes I've always thought that money and power are a good fit. It keeps the rabble in check. For centuries, money chased power. And today it's totally the opposite.
