Grainfedprairieboy - Keep Your City Outta My Country

Howdy

Here's a quick biography.

I am a middle aged combat veteran with 17 years service from Alberta who currently farms altruistically and operates a small off farm business north of Edmonton. I have Metis blood but no Metis ties. I have multiple children who range in age from 23-8 and one grandchild. All are fluent in French as is their mother. I am not. I tolerate them parlay vouying as I believe it might be of value should we need interpreters when the revolution comes.  I do however converse in a bit of Cree.

I lived in a boy’s school run by priests and nuns. My four high school years were in Toronto after the Liberals destroyed Alberta with their NEP and I was sent East. Politically I believe the Wildrose is too far to the left. I am an atheist but have no problems with Christians and their traditions in Canada. I like Jews, support Israel to the point of buying state bonds and outright object to just about everything about Islam. I support immigration only for those willing to assimilate. I reject dual citizenship and support the right of a woman to wear a Burqa.

I have never drank, I have never done drugs. I have never seen the point having watched people do both.  I hunt. I fish. I eat meat. I am sexually open minded but oppose prostitution. I support gay civil unions but not gay marriage. I support the right to be gay and equal but object to its promotion to children in any way. I do not support transgender or any other type of paraphilia that has its roots in mental disorder.

I am a strong environmentalist. I have solar panels on my house, evacuated solar tubes on my shop and use a wood gasification boiler to heat my extremely large but largely self bit but recycled home. I support the oilsands and keystone. I do not believe in anthropogenic climate change but believe CO2 and other emissions must be drastically reduced to save our oceans and atmosphere.

I believe money and capitalism is humankind’s grandest achievement. I am wealthy now and while I once struggled for several decades, I never actually knew abject poverty. I believe you make your bed and you should lie in it but have volunteered with a number of service groups who help the poor and needy who are mostly there through a series of poor choices.

Private property is sacrosanct and I believe the three S’s are the solution from endangered species to trespassers. Freedom of Speech and Expression is my religion. It is the only thing of value and worth defending and is under tremendous attack from a myriad of forces in Canada and around the world. I am here to defend it.

My beliefs aren’t set in stone and have shifted radically. Some notable examples over the years include begrudgingly accepting women as almost equal after being smote with the first three daughters in a row, climate change is not caused by man, God does not exist and that following Newton, there needs to be controls on firearms for everyone but me.

This pretty much sums me up. Many contradictions in character and beliefs.  I look forward to intelligent and spirited debate from those on the left seeking fresh meat on the right.

Cheers,

GFPB

So? That has nothing to do with babble policy.

Which policy have I violated?

No 'fishing'. :)

Well, I'm not the arbiter of babble policy, but my guess is you'll be meeting them soon enough.

In the meantime, this should give you some hints:

Quote:
rabble.ca is a public, independent, progressive news and information source. In defining itself as "progressive," rabble.ca embraces a pro-human rights, pro-feminist, anti-racist, queer-positive, anti-imperialist and pro-labour stance, and as such encourages discussions which develop and expand progressive thought.

Quote:
As part of rabble.ca, babble was created to ensure that readers and participants could explore a wide range of issues of interest and concern in interactive and dynamic ways.babble is NOT intended as a place where the basic and fundamental values of human rights, feminism, anti-racism and labour rights are to be debated or refought.

grainfedprairieboy

That's fine. I'm not debating any of those things. I am however offerring a clear and unabridged insght into my perspective.

Having said that, deciding an issue is settled and revoking discussion on it unless the sentiment expressed reinforces the sites opinion is a bit totalitarian. Don't you find that somewhat boring?

Oh there's enough that isn't boring. As for calling it totalitarian, how is that any different than that 3S  approach to property rights?

In any case, it doesn't matter; they are the house rules man. Deal with it.

I've gone through the site. Bit lame overall. Certainly not the repository of progressive political energy I was led to believe but nevertheless I intend to behave IAW the behaviour of those members commenting in the political forums.

For clarification, I`m not here to disturb anyone’s sensitivities, nor am I some sort of forum troll. I`m here for meaningful discussion with a group whose political opinions and life experiences are significantly different from mine and I value intelligent discourse.

The anti-gay comments made in your introduction are a clear violation of babble and rabble policy, for EQUALITY.

So are the anti-poor stereotypes. I know lots of people who are poor because their employer went belly-up, and don't find another decent job, especially over a certain age. Most of these people I know are NOT on social assistance, but find nothing but low-paying, precarious work.

The comment on the "mental health and violence" thread set off a lot of alarms; I responded because the "tough-as-nails" mindset (carried outside combat situations) prevents many military personnel, as well as police and others whose work requires "toughness" from seeking the help they need for PTSD. This is very serious and can kill - usually the afflicted person, occasionally family members.

As per private property, this is a forum that belongs to the owners of rabble.ca - thus according to your own orientation, they have the right to make the house rules, or to allow the members to do so. Co-operatives and other "social" forms of ownership do this as well.

Quite. Expect to see a few bouncebacks after the initial turf, as well.

You'd think in the past seven years he would have developed a new hobby. And to add to the list of offensiveness what he said about trans people.

I am not anti gay. In fact I have a younger brother who is gay and it pains me dearly that so far he has spent his life alone. I strongly support civil unions with all the trappings of marriage for two, three or whatever numbers of any gender which chooses to formally register. However, while an atheist, I do believe the tradition of marriage belongs to the religious institutions and if those institutions wish to set criteria, including refusing to marry us atheists, then it should be their prerogative.

I just don't believe in the promotion or indoctrination of children the homosexual lifestyle in the same capacity I oppose indoctrinating children into material, religious or militaristic lifestyles to name just three others.

Who we are and where we are at in life for the average adult is generally arrived at through as series of choices. Many of us make poor choices. I work with several volunteer poverty groups and have actively assisted in placing two Somali Muslims into the Edmonton area last year. I also provide 10% of what I produce off the land back to the community food bank. I am a strong advocate that no one in Canada should ever go cold, hungry, or be sick or isolated or alone and that the way to achieve this is through the actions of the members of the community.

And I specifically believe the empowerment of those sufferring through poverty comes through education and a hand up rather than a hand out and I practice what I preach.

You are right, it is an issue. This type of forum is an excellent place to explore those demons.

Again you are right. But I am not the boogieman you may think. I was at Clayoquet for example and lived in the peace camp for a time. And though I was there to protest the ruling that made protesting illegal, and though I ate cooked meat at the fire which amongst the activists was "disgusting", I feel it was a similar scenario.

You'd think in the past seven years he would have developed a new hobby. And to add to the list of offensiveness what he said about trans people.

I generally only ever post to one forum at a time and have ever consistently only belonged to two forums in my online life. Canadakicksass and thepeacearch. CKA I haven't posted on in around 5 years and TPA I hadn't posted on for several and it has disappeared. I have also been a brief member but found the debate too juvenile on two other sites but can't remember the names of either. One was right and the other was centre.

My nic is always grainfedprairieboy. I post comments to the National Post regularly and am registered with half a dozen newspapers around the world which I post comments irregularly.

I have not posted on any forum for at least two years. If I posted here under a pseudonym or series of identifiable pseudonyms for a brief period it was probably an extension of a debate with someone from CKA of which I can only vaguely recall.

I am not satisfied with the intellectual discourse I am experiencing at the National Post. I am hoping for more here.

In the last seven years or so I have released from the military, lost an estranged father to cancer, lost two friends to war, had a son, became wealthy and a number of other life changing events.

But it'll likely be clear to many around here that you're carrying so much of it around with you.  There appears to be a great deal of satisfaction.  And how exactly would you describe a 'homosexual lifestyle?'

Your thread title displays an aggressive, argumentative stance. Maybe not the best choice. Also, for an atheist you've really sucked back the koolaid of the religious right. Eg, Nobody is "promoting" or "indoctrinating children into homosexuality! It's included in school curricula to acknowledge and respect the children and sam-sex parent families and hopefully lessen their burden of discrimination, bullying, exclusion. That "indoctrination" crap is just sleazy anti-homosexual propaganda. By taking such pains to 'declare' your biases, it appears that you are challenging what you already know are the policies of babble.
