Not about cats

This thread is not about cats. Anyone posting anything about cats will be summarily banned forever.

Here you can indulge your sense of the absurd, make oblique references to obscure philosophers that .01% of babblers will get. Jokes, puns, wry observations, all are welcome here.

Just no cats.

I think we can manage the three in one shot.

Anti-humor is a type of indirect humour that involves the joke-teller delivering something which is deliberately not funny, or lacking in intrinsic meaning. The practice relies on the expectation on the part of the audience of something humorous, and when this does not happen, the irony itself is of comedic value.

Meta question:

Does it count if we make and don't make references to cats in a sealed metal box?

sherpa-finn

Smith: You must be referring to Schrödinger's dog.

lagatta

But this means that I can't post about anything, being a cat and all...

If we're going wiki:

Quote:
In philosophy, "the Absurd" refers to the conflict between the human tendency to seek inherent value and meaning in life and human inability to find any.

By dropping in Kierkegaard, I'm well within the parameters of the OP.

From a Steve Martin routine. Involved joke storyline about plumbers ending with:

"... It says sprocket, not socket!"

(waits for audience reaction)

"This IS the plumbers' convention, right?"

Oh, I am fairly sure wikipedia gets more pedantic than that. [/pedantry]

Definition of 'herding cats': a Moderator patiently explaining to Babblers that of all the thousands of available threads, only one shall include absolutely no references to cats. At all. Whatsoever.

And this one is, just because.

sherpa, but I'm sure you understand why I consider that criterion discriminatory Wink

Yes, its Italian sister kittycitty is Villa delli Gatti ... e delle Gatte.

sherpa-finn

Hey, lagatta - I was going to say "It's not all about you", - but maybe I was wrong.

Wouldn't that be a clowder of threads?

sherpa-finn

I aspire to learn something new, each and every day.  And today it was "clowder".  Thank-you, Bekayne!

Totally loving this.

BTW, you are all banned for life for the cat posts. I'm banning myself as well.

There's a place for dogs too.  With dog lovers.

Timebandit Timebandit's picture

I'm suspicious of anyone who doesn't like dogs.

Slumberjack

I like dogs, when they're with other people.  They can even visit as long as they go home.

bagkitty bagkitty's picture

My liking of dogs increases dramatically with distance. I believe my favourite dog of all time would have been Laika...

... although if the march of technology continues (allowing for interplanetary travel for dogs) her position may be surplanted.

lagatta

Poor wee Laika... Cry

I'm definitely a catperson, but there are dogs I've loved very, very much.

MegB

I like most animals.

WARNING: if you get the heebie-jeebies from unpleasant stories involving pain or possible extreme distress, don't read this cautionary tale!

A long time ago, around last Thursday, I was snoozing with my new kitten sleeping on my neck. She was pretty tiny so that was fine. Anyway, I woke up, slowly, to the sound of the kitten in distress and a tugging feeling on my face. Weird.

I opened the one eye that I could and there was the kitten, mewing loudly with her claw stuck in my eyelid. She was pulling furiously, trying to yank her razor-sharp claw from my face. Visions of sugarplums did not dance through my head; rather, I had Lear-like visions of rolling eyeballs (mine!) and other gruesome eventualities.

I stayed calm and tried to figure out what to do. The kitten was now mewing very insistenting, trying to rip her little claw out and digging in with the rest of them. The urge to leap up suddenly, once it had passed, was safely behind me. Now, if I had, say, had a few drinks the night before then you would be reading the words of "one eye" ikosmos.

I couldn't move my right arm - pinned under the cat awkwardly - so, very carefully, I reached around with my left hand and got my fingers on to the offending claw and "plink!" pulled the claw out of my eyelid. There was a small cut that healed in a few days.

I theorize that the cat saw my REM sleep and took my moving eyeballs for a mouse or something. It was a very long time before I let her sleep on my neck again.

And that's the story of how I got the "floater" in my left eye. [Well, either than or the other time ... which I won't talk about. ]

Unionist

OMG ikosmos. OMG.

WHAT.

The animation ism't working right Smith (maybe you just captured a single frame of the GIF), I don't see his jaw unhinging so he can swallow the feline whole.

Roxy (dog) and Rosie (cat) are both very upset with the suitcase and my pile of stuff as I get ready to head off on a work trip.  Roxy paces anxiously and gives me mournful looks, Rosie just sits on my stuff and purrs.

I feel the exact same way about children.
