Outgoing Immigration Minister Chris Alexander blames literally everyone but himself

“Suddenly we ended up in a campaign talking about second-class citizens? That concept does not exist in Canadian law. It should not exist in public debate. We did not introduce it to the debate. When it was introduced by the party that’s now won the election, we didn’t counter it enough,” he said.

“We don’t have room in this country for poison like that and people deserve in an election to know what the law actually says, the protections they enjoy in this country, what opportunities they enjoy in this country compared to virtually every country in the world. But that failed to be communicated.”

"we didn’t counter it enough,” he said.

Sounds to me like he's blaming his own team.

Debater

One of many Harper CPC MP's who ended up being known as nasty, snarky & bitchy.

gadar

This man has believed his lies so much that he still spouting them. Yes they did create different classes of citizens. And yes people have protections in this country. Those protections protect people from jackasses like him and his master. And people rightfully turfed them because they have been trying to weaken those protections.

Yes they introduced it to the debate by announcing that they are stripping a man of his citizenship in the middle of the campaign. And kept the debate alive by announcing that they will do the same to a canadian born man a few days later. Butt even said that the law can be used against Mulcair.

Go away you lying pieces of crap.

Debater

Yes, it was nice to see Brad Butt be wiped out along with all of the other Mississauga Conservatives.

They lost every single seat in Mississauga (& everything in Scarborough, Brampton & Etobicoke).

Brad Butt was also the CPC MP who had the nerve to flat out lie in the House of Commons last year about finding hundreds of ballots in the garbage can.

All of these guys take their cues from Harper.  This is why it was so important that he be taken down.  Even if you don't like everything about Trudeau it was important that a message be sent to the Harper CPC.

Stephen Lewis said this on CBC to Peter Mansbridge on Election Night.  Lewis said that he was glad that a clear message was being sent to Harper.

Oh gadar. The Cons didn't try to weaken those protections. They did it. It's done. And because this country drank the poisoned Liberal kook-aid once again, they are not coming back. You don't have rights anymore. The Cons and the Libs teamed up (as always) to take them away and our one chance to reverse that was thrown away. You really need to stop kidding yourself that this was a victory. It's the agenda that matters, not the guy carrying the flag, and the agenda proceeds apace, including all the horrible stuff the last Con govt did which will not be reversed by the new Con govt. I mean Liberal. Whatever.

The chutzpah of this guy...  Just because Alexander doesn't CALL it second class citizenship doesn't mean it's not.  I know the Harper regime believes in twisting the meaning of words to suit them, but rarely is it this blatant; he must have really been hurting from his defeat.  No, you didn't fail to communicate, you failed by DOING THE WRONG THING.  The thing that created a separate class of citizens by curtailing the rights of only some, the thing that made citizenship a commodity where a stern task master rewards "good" behaviour with continued citizenship and "bad" behaviour with its loss.  Doubleplusungood.

Hell will freeze over before those miscreants ever admit to any possible wrongdoing.  They just didn't communicate properly (translation:  they didn't manage to hoodwink the electorate sufficiently).

Here's hoping Trudeau will really scrap the discriminatory elements from C-24, the "Weakening Canadian Citizenship Act" as I call it.  I'm gonna send Alexander an "In Your Face" postcard if it happens.

Debater

Defeated CPC MP Brad Butt even joked about deporting dual citizen Mulcair.

We shall find out I guess. I have never believed that Cons and Libs are the same, neither have I ever believed that NDP and the Libs are the same. Hardcore NDPers have always tried to sell the 'Con = Lib' and Liberals here have always tried to sell 'NDP=Libs' both of them are not true. And I am not about to start flogging this dead horse which has been flogged many a times on these boards.

Jacob Two-Two

Um, no. We won't "find out". Like I said, it's already happened. CSIS can now ignore the charter and we can't do anything about it. We live in a police state right now. There is nothing to discover.

Obviously, they're not identical. Cons wanted take lots of rights away. Libs only want to take a few. Whoopee! Oh happy day!

OK you win. Like I said not going to get into this.

Much as I'm not a fan of the Liberals, Alexander's Liberal opponent Mark Holland was very good at finding dirt on the Conservatives during the minority Parliaments, so I'm quite happy to see this particular Liberal MP return.

Debater

And the numbers show that many NDP voters in Ajax supported Mark Holland.

They know that he is progressive on many social issues and is a far better representative for them than a Harper MP like Alexander.

Slumberjack

Every one of the con cabinet ministers over the years should appear on wanted posters everywhere.  The rewards should be kept quite low however, with symbolism being important here.  Minus the dead of course, who already have their reward presumably.

Chris Alexander just sent the following tweets

"PM Trudeau's refusal to condemn horrific acts of terror in Paris because it's "too soon to jump to any conclusions" is totally inadequate."

"These terrorist outrages are much more than "unsettling": they're organized attacks on major ally for which ISIS has claimed responsibility."

"This is an act of war. NATO's Article 5 should be invoked, w/ Cda's support. Govt should end shameful references to ending airstrikes."

"Drop the spin, PM Trudeau said it was "too soon to jump to any conclusions.". But the conclusion is obvious: ISIS must be destroyed."

"This will require increased air strikes as part of a broader military strategy w/ allies to end ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and Assad brutality."

"This govt has signalled to intention to fight ISIS w/ allies. Why pretend otherwise? No condemnation = no commitment to action."

"Fact will remain Trudeau government released mandate letters ordering end to air strikes against ISIS on precisely day ISIS attacked Paris."

Does Chris Alexander have severe brain damage?

Debater

This is why the NDP would also find it challenging to be in power.

We have a very conservative media and a big war drum out there that wants the Liberals to ramp up the attacks against ISIS.

no. this is an example of a temper tantrum by a privileged white male who just lost it.

plus the Conservatives supporters loved to be lied to. it makes their world a better place.

Debater

I guess Chris Alexander isn't taking his 20-point loss to Mark Holland very well.

terrytowel

Despite an impressive resume, Chris Alexander has always seemed a little "off".

But he did support and vote for Randall Garrison's Transgender Bill.

No, he just took Twitter lessons from Pat Martin. Ignore him, he's excrement.

terrytowel wrote:

Apparently (can't find the source yet) he misheard it as "TransPacific".

Debater

Chris Alexander has had several pubilc meltdowns.

There was the incident on Power & Politics with Rosemary Barton in September.

And a couple of years ago Alexander lashed out at Terry Milewski and called him a "Trotskyite".

terrytowel wrote:

just read his resume never really heard of him before his loss.

i'm not sure i call it impressive. but it does look good on paper.

Debater

In theory Alexander was supposed to be a good catch for the Conservatives.

He was a former Ambassador and was thought to be intelligent & articulate.

But he ended up becoming not only an ideological right-winger instead of a moderate, but a totally nasty, vindictive, spiteful spoiled brat.

As mentioned above, he lashed out at Rosemary Barton in September over the refugee issue and called Terry Milewski a Trotskyite the year before.

Now he's on Twitter ranting & raving that Trudeau isn't doing enough to denounce the terrorists.
