Mr. Magoo

I think that one of the funniest things to come out of the whole "Trump, sports and kneeling" fiasco is his cheerful approval of NASCAR for discouraging it.

NASCAR is an acronym, so I'd capitalize it anyway, but if it weren't, I'd capitalize it anyway!  Because, geez, NASCAR!  What a shocker that Ricky Bobby, or his Skoal-chewin', boot-scootin', rebel flag-flyin' fans aren't that interested in violence against blacks.  I wonder if NASCAR fans have any strong opinions about Affirmative Action, or immigration??!

LOL.   Who's that guy on the flag in the upper right?  Is it someone from Lynyrd Skynyrd?

I swear that if any southern state had the money to build their own Mount Rushmore it would feature likenesses of Ronald Reagan, Elvis Presley, John Wayne, and Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Kind of looks like Hank Williams, Jr.

White House Aides Are Stopping Deal With Assange Congressman Says

As I said a few months ago. Assange has earned his get out of jail free card by propping up Trump in the last election.

I remember when the Repugnicans wanted him executed or put in jail for life. They mistook him as a liberal.

The reality is that he's a Trump sycophant who is as despicable and loathesome as a Nigel Farage or Steve Bannon.

I wish he was wanted by another country (apparently pointing out that Sweden wants him or at least wanted him is 'ignorant') but he will soon have a safe home in the US where he'll continue to use Wikileaks as a propaganda machine for the Repuglican Party.

Assange can fuck off and die. As he deserves to.

We wondered why Trump was behaving like he is, but now we know: it's all about revenge

Every stance he takes is designed to unstitch a panel on the tapestry Obama so patiently created. And now, with Iran and North Korea poised to act, we're about to witness the first apocalypse out of spite

I've taken the position that I should not visit the U.S. as long as the current government is in power. However, I've been told by some of my friends, as well as progressive Americans I have met, that this is the wrong tactic and that I should not boycott those parts of the States that did not support the Republicans. Just wondering what babblers thought. To boycott or not to boycott: that is the question.

voice of the damned

I think a boycott only makes sense if there is an organized effort underway to CHANGE A PARTICULAR POLICY. In other words, you're effectively saying to the jurisdiction "I will boycott you until you change that policy." The idea being that they will hopefully change the policy because they want you to end the boycott. Apartheid South Africa would be the classic example here.

But in the case of the current administration in the US, there's nothing you can really ask Americans to do to get rid of it and end your boycott. The next presidential election is going to be held in 2020, and there is zero chance that it is going to be moved ahead. So, there is literally nothing a boycott could do to get rid of Trump.

(Well, I suppose you could hope that Trump resigns for the good of the American economy, but this presumes that a) the boycott is massive enough to damage the economy, and b) Trump cares about what happens to anyone besides him, and c) Pence would be an improvement over Trump. I don't place a lot of faith in any of those propositions.)

That said, I'm not sure about your friends' argument that Blue States should be immune from any boycott, since the whole country is usually expected to bear the brunt of policies put into place by the national government, including international reactions against those policies(South Africans who voted against the National Party weren't given special exemptions to do business with the outside world, for example). And, quite frankly, I'd feel more sympathy for a left-winger living in a Red State who gets hurt by a boycott, then for a right-winger in a Blue State, if we're talking about who does and does not deserve to suffer.

The don't know the truth of it but I really hope that this not the truth because this really worries me.  This article is plain scary.

"In recent days, I’ve spoken with a half dozen prominent Republicans and Trump advisers, and they all describe a White House in crisis as advisers struggle to contain a president that seems to be increasingly unfocused and consumed by dark moods."

+1.

I think it's hard to take some boycotts too seriously because:

a) The people "boycotting" really never bought the product or service in the first place.  If you don't ever eat at McDonalds anyway, choosing to never eat at McDonalds "because X" is unlikely to "wake" them.

b) The boycott is a vague message to a business or country that "in general, we sort of don't like you".  Add to that the possibility that many boycotters never will like that business or country no matter what they do or don't do, and again it's unsurprising if they don't promptly roll over.

c) The boycott just doesn't have numbers either way.  There are surely more people who don't drink Coke because they don't care for it, or they don't care for soda drinks, or they just like a different soda better than there are people boycotting Coke because of "X".  No company expects 100% of the population to buy their product, and they're already prepared for the possibility that you won't either.

President Trump’s nominee to be the White House senior adviser for environmental policy, Kathleen Hartnett White, in 2016 described the belief in “global warming” as a “kind of paganism” for “secular elites,” CNN reports.

“Hartnett White, currently a senior fellow at the conservative think tank Texas Public Policy Foundation, has long expressed skepticism about established climate science and once dismissed the idea that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, calling it ‘the gas of life on this planet.'”

As head of the Council on Environmental Quality, Hartnett White would oversee environmental and energy policies across the government.

Trump Pardon Does Nothing To Make Sheriff Arpaio Less Guilty, Says Judge

In ruling, federal judge notes that Arpaio's acceptance of the pardon amounts to an admission of guilt.

A federal judge refused to erase history Thursday, stating that former Sheriff Joe Arpaio is still guilty of criminal contempt of court for defying orders to stop racially profiling Latinos—despite President Donald Trump's pardon of Arpaio in August.

The pardon did not "revise the historical facts of this case," said U.S. District Judge Susan Ritchie Bolton in her ruling.

Bolton convicted Arpaio in July for violating the constitutional rights of residents in Maricopa County, Arizona after an earlier order barred him from doing so. Arpaio, a loyal Trump supporter, was notorious for detaining Latinos without any evidence of wrongdoing. He established a detention center known as Tent City where inmates were regularly humiliated and exposed to extreme temperatures, drawing condemnation from human rights groups.

One Republican senator:

The President has great difficulty with the truth. On many issues.

When his term is over, I think the debasing of our nation, the constant non-truth telling, and the -- just the name calling, the things that I think, the debasement of our nation is what we will be remembered most important

And another:

"We must stop pretending that the conduct of some in our executive branch are normal. They are not normal," Flake said in a passionate speech on the Senate floor aimed clearly at Trump.

"I have children and grandchildren to answer to, and so, Mr. President, I will not be complicit and silent," Flake continued. "When the next generation asks us, why didn’t you do something, why didn’t you speak up, what are we going to say?"

I was just watching CNN and they were talking about a recent(today?) poll.

Support for trump with gop voters 83%/13% yes/no

***Here is the big news***

GOP voters where why do support(or similiar question I think why did you join the GOP) Trump 56% or GOP 36%

Trump owns the party, all these people who are speaking out they will be purged like Flake.  Bannon was saying Flake is only one of GOP polticicans will be primaried and purged for there anti-trump politics.  It a simple message, fall in behind trump or be primaried.  If people think that Trump will be weakened in 2018 elections, trump getting reinforcements after primared gop policticans are replace. Bannon is already calling for Ryans and Michenals heads, Trump can have these 2 replaced in a heart beat.

I thought in past there would be small chance  of impeachment but I was wrong, 0% chance now.  Now you cross and you be primaried out your seat like Flake.  Flake is spent force and example what happens when you cross Trump and his fellow proporgandist Bannon.

"Many have criticized the Warren Commission as a coverup. Gallup polls show that over 50 percent of Americans believe Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone."

Mr. Magoo

The "big reveal" is pretty much a moot point, though.  No massive files could prove a negative, redacted or not.  If they released every single page, every single word, and it all pointed to Oswald, k00Ks would just say "they held the good stuff back", or shredded it in 1965, or whatever.

When people believe the government to be corrupt, the catch-22 is that the government cannot hope to prove to those people that they are not corrupt.
