What more will it take before the GOP cuts loose from Trump's mob rule?

Is this the beginning of the end between the GOP and Trump's mob rule?

What will it take? It'll take it being more dangerous for individual legislators to support Trump than to oppose him. In other words, the risk of being defeated in the general election by a Democrat (in their gerrymandered-to-hell districts) will have to be greater than the risk of being defeated in a primary by a more pro-Trump Republican. I hate to disappoint you, but that day isn't even remotely on the horizon yet. 2016 was the only lesson the GOP needed.

It's not happening. I wish it was because this Orange demagogue has emboldened hate and as predicted it has spilled over our border.

This prick will be a 2 termer (providing he doesnt declare himself Emporor for life)

And things are going to get much worse. In the US and in Canada really soon. The people LOVE fascism. What can any of us do?

I don't think that body will make it that far.

I hope you're right but I'm skeptical. He's a cult leader with a large number of devoted followers and sycophants. And the Democrats keep shutting out progressives and stand for nothing. That's the whole reason the world got stuck with that orange turd in the first place.

I believe bekayne was making a joke, alan.

This deserves its own thread.

If this motherfucker wants to play this game,Canada should and at this point be obliged to hit back at the US.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Rona Ambrose is part of the NAFTA committee. I hope she talks some sense into people like Freeland and demand Canada hit the US HARD with our own tariffs of our goods. Including our energy exports.

NAFTA is dead. Maybe Canada can join Mexico and come up with very, very stiff tariffs on our goods while maintaining a trade relatiuonship with Mexico.

People will say this is going to be a big hit on Canada. I think Canada is in a position to teach this orange prick a valuable lesson. Let's hope they have the fortitude.

Pondering

NAFTA is not going anywhere. US businesses would suffer too much. NAFTA already favors the US. That's why Trump is so frustrated. Steel tarrifs are going to hurt US businesses and cause a rise in home prices in the US. All Canada and Mexico have to do is stall until there is a normal administration in place.

When Trump was first elected his deadline was 3 months if I recall correctly. He wanted the deal before Christmas break as if a deal like NAFTA could be negotiated in 3 months.

The US has lost a great deal under Trump. The world sees that the emperor (the US) has no clothes. They elected Trump. The US is no longer the leader of the free world. The world is turning away from the US as leader of anything. The US still has the biggest military, the biggest economy, which is a lot, but it has the reputation of a thug not a world leader.

Getting back to the question in the thread title:  It would take the GOP coming to believe that they could win elections without appealing to bigotry and rage.  At this point, they don't think that is possible.  And they have good reason to see it that way, since they are aware that their economic policies help the few at the expense of the many.

More to the point, if the GOP thinks that adherence to Trump is costing them votes, they may consider abandoning him. The upcoming mid-terms are very important in that respect. Even if not that many seats change hands, the GOP will be watching the percentage of the vote. Very carefully.

If they see their vote headiing south, they will start casting about for some way to save the 2020 elections.
