What’s happening as the vultures are circling?

Is Musk ok?

If we weren't fooled by Atlas Shrugged why should we be fooled by Atlas Whined?

This is a bit more important than that other nonsense.

Elon Musk Wants to Take Tesla Private. Can He Make the Math Work?

A buyout of the electric-car maker would be complicated and costly.

Does anyone here drive a Tesla, and if so, what is your experience with it?

6079_Smith_W

They are fast, heavy and expensive. And they haven't quite got heating for minus 25 down yet. That is to say, take a drive with four people in the car and the windows get pretty frosty. They should really make those windows with a plexiglass liner.

And charging is still spotty if you are away from major cities.

This Musk character is losing my respect in a hurry!

He should be embracing organized labour! I hope a serious contender to Tesla emerges so this clown can sink into nothingness! He's nothing more than a scab!

Are Tesla vehicles solar-powered?

Teslas, like the Chevy Volt, are charged from a conventional electrical power source, which looks kind of like a gas pump but takes much longer. In my neighborhood in Montreal, the city has installed public charging stations which have already been vandalized. They would have to, because people have to park on the street in Montreal. The charge goes into a battery, which now uses lithium technology. Lithium is one of those disgusting rare earths mined in developing countries by slave labour.

Although we are just transferring our pollution and environmental degradation elsewhere by using electric cars, it is quite amazing how many stars you can see at night even in the middle of the city.

There is somebody working on a solar-powered car I believe in the USA probably in California

Yes, like any electrical device, if you own solar panels.

But if you mean "do they have solar panels on the roof, capable of powering them around for as long as the sun is out?", well, no.

Cars would need to be much larger than they are, in terms of area at least, if they were to be continuously solar powered.  The solar cells that could fit the roof of a conventional electric car wouldn't get it and its passengers around the block.

Thanks for the link North Report. But I’m thinking that a solar power car woul still need charging and the solar cells would only create a trickle charge assistance.

However having said that who knows? When people actually try to develop these ideas and tech, I think it brings us a baby step closer to practical solutions.
