Germany 'Totally Controlled By Russia': Trump at NATO Meeting (and vid)

https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/germany-totally-controlled-by-russia-trump-a...

"...Trump, in a testy exchange with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, took issue with the US protecting Germany as it strikes deals with Russia.

'I have to say, I think it's very sad when Germany makes a massive oil and gas deal with Russia when we're supposed to be guarding against Russia,' Trump said at breakfast with Stoltenberg. 'We're supposed to protect you against Russia but they're paying billions to Russia and I think that's very inappropriate.'

Trump repeatedly described Germany as 'captive to Russia' and urged NATO to look into the issue. Stoltenberg, for his part, credited Trump for spurring NATO nations to spend more on defence, noting that the Europeans and Canada are projected to spend around $266 billion more by 2024.

'We all agree that we have to do more,' he said, describing last year as marking the biggest increase in defence spending across Europe and Canada in a generation. Trump interjected, asking Stoltenberg whey he thought that had happened.

'It's also because of your leadership, because of your clear message, Stoltenberg responded. Trump took credit for the spending, telling the NATO chief that 'because of me they've raised about $40 billion over the last year. So I think the secretary-general likes Trump. He may be the only one, but that's OK with me..."

Well, I watched the first 10 minutes of this program. I had seen this show a few times several years ago, and it struck me then as a useful discussion program, with interesting, knowledgable people participating. This was a great contrast to that. So nagging NATO nations to double or triple military spending, when the US will be supplying those bombs and drones does add up!

I think the first part of your speculation, about Russian military tech being more advanced than its U.S. counterpart is mistaken. The U.S. throws so much money at military tech that they are always way ahead of the pack.

The second part, that the real reason for Trump hectoring NATO leaders to increase military spending is to benefit U.S. weapons manufacturers, is obviously true.

sorry but I wasn’t implying that Russian military tech is ahead of US, but near equal.

Keeping in mind that Syria has knocked a lot of US Israel military tech down using less than the most advanced Russian military tech.

But here’s the thing, we will never really know unless these war machines are tested.

Heres another guess, the US may actually be hyping how advanced Russian military tech really is to scare its allies into buying from the US.

Either way, military spending is a huge stupid waste of money!!!

And NATO is only really a huge advertisement for military spending

The Russian military is surprisingly well equipped but they don't advertise it.  There's some Russian units, often conscripts, who have shit for equipment, but Russia realised how useless conscripts are and how important it is to have a modern well equipped well lead military.

Some of their weapons and vehicles are seriously impressive. Their soldiers are sporting some seriously effective body armor and equipment.

They've gone out of their way to deploy with shitty looking equipment to throw off observers and switch to better stuff when conducting business.

Mr. Magoo

Three soldiers at a joint military exercise -- one from the U.S., one from the UK and one from Russia -- are sitting around discussing their gear and provisions.  Who has the lightest boots, who has the best body armour and so on, until the talk turns to rations.

"In the Russian Army, each man is given 2300 calories per day to live and fight on!", said the Russian soldier.

"In Her Majesty's military, each soldier is fed 3500 calories per day in the field, and even more on base", claimed the Brit.

"A U.S. soldier gets 4800 calories, even in the field", said the Yank.

"Nonsense!", exclaimed the Russian.  "No man could eat that much cabbage!"

Perspective from China CCTV4 (a little off topic)

Russian military aircraft violated ROK airspace on 4 separate occasions today. Now ROK isn’t in NATO but Chinese media is contemplating if these incursions will have an impact on the Putin Trump meeting.

Also India is continuing to seek purchasing Russian s400 missile defence systems. Now from my understanding India purchases of Russian military tech is the largest such exchange in the world. And this is really pissing off the US!

Chinese media is suggesting that India is working with Russia in developing improving these weapons systems and that this can help explain why Russian systems are so advanced.

Also this collaboration is another huge irritation to the US. The US has no willing partnership to counter the Russian Indian alliance. NATO at this time appears to be rescinding, less the US. This could explain the awkward G7 and NATO meetings?

I have better things to do, such as clip my toenails, and far more important, discuss how we can get an actual mass anti-NATO and antiwar movement off the ground again.

NATO is not only horrible, aggressive and costly, it no longer serves the purpose it was supposedly designed for, as the treaty was formed (once again, supposedly) to counter the supposed threat from the Soviet union and its satellite states. There is no longer a Soviet Union. For this reason humour could be a component of a modern anti-NATO (and antiwar, anti-imperialist) movement.

NATO is bad enough, but if it were actually Nazi, wouldn't it have murdered all the remaining Jews and Roma in central and eastern Europe and a high percentage of the Slavic peoples, enslaving the rest? (A horrific thought).

6079_Smith_W

My point is that the first reaction  (from al'Q) was pretty much the same as yours:

Thoughtless comments such as this severely diminish the meaning of the word "Nazi." Try to criticise that which you oppose without reducing your argument to absurdity before you even start.

Of course what has changed in the last 10 years is the propaganda machine that already used "Nazis" as a selective foil against everything it disagrees with has gone into overdrive.

NATO is a fascist organization. To call it Nazi brings in fascism's genocidal cousin and merely clouds the issue. The financial oligarchs are in control in all NATO countries and the laws our "democratic" governments pass show it. NATO is one of the vilest imperial regimes in the history of humanity because it has no rule of law only its own arbitrary and self interested decisions that it imposes with the arms all us NATO citizens provide.

The Iraq war broke the back of the anti-war movement in this part of the world. We went from tens of thousands in the streets protesting to a few hundred at best. Given that mobilizing millions of people around the globe, especially in NATO countries had absolutely no effect caused people to move on to other causes that are more personal.
