Watched the following Fireworks documentary on Netflix about an artist from Quanzhou in China last evening.

Truly spectactular and well worth watching, even though part of me was reacting to the impact on the environment

The Hong Kong government listens to the people as well as any capitalist government. I was in Victoria on Feb 23 2002 and the BC Liberal response to tens of thousands in the streets protesting austerity was to tell reporters they were just a bunch of union thugs.

In our free society it was far easier to find out about protests in China from 20 years ago than it is to find links to news from Canada. I guess it is just the vagaries of the search engines' algorithms not state censorship so nothing to talk about there.

The US Stunt in Hong Kong Will Make Other Issues More Difficult

https://t.co/PQ2DlRymkR

"The current attempt of a US instigated color revolution in Hong Kong is failing. Martin Lee and other US stooges organized large demonstrations against an extradition bill which would allow the government to send people who committed crimes in mainland China, Taiwan and Macau to those provinces where the crime was committed to receive their punishment. Hong Kong has similar agreements with foreign countries.

Their aims are clearly unachievable and racist nonsense. The US may believe that the circus it creates with these student stunts might push China into doing something harsh. But the mainland is not concerned about such nonsense. It already knows how this will end..."

Violent 'Color Revolution' in Hong Kong Fails Despite Strong NYT Support

https://t.co/tI2d3ACtBs

"When the US instigates its so-called 'color revolutions', the transatlantic mainstream media are usually supportive. But the support is rarely as extreme as the extraordinary one the New York Times gives to the rioters in Hong Kong. The US and the NYT lost their second attempt to turn Hong Kong against mainland China. Three to five years from now they will try again. It will again be in vain."

So North Report do you support Black Bloc protestors when they rampage in the streets like they did in Hamilton earlier this year? Sometimes our vandals are agent provocateurs but one way or the other the vast majority of Canadians abhor that kind of behaviour.

Personally I think that violent protestors get violent responses from governments in every country on the planet, could you list the exceptions I may have missed.

China's problems are all self-inflicted. If China wants credibility on our planet they might want to consider moving on the following issues:

Rescind Xi Jinping's dictator for life mandate. Planet Earth already has too many dictators.

Release the Uighur Muslims from their Chinese concetration camps which is bordering on Chinese fascism

Stop being a bully and picking fights with smaller countries like over the Philippine land in the South China Sea and get over Taiwan which is a separate country now

Stop monitoring all the Chinese citizens' privacy which is none of the Chinese government's business.

These are just a few issues but the list goes on and on.

How about you learn Mandarin dialect Chinese for 10 years, find a partner in China, have children with them, live there, immerse yourself in Chinese culture and life,  then get back to us.

Just maybe you'll be able to pull off the blinders of propaganda placed on you by the imperialist corporate media?

North Report knows nothing except the NATO propaganda he ingests everyday. Critical analysis is not his strong suit. The Uighurs like the Zionists want to carve out a "homeland" in a area that they are the minority in. Like all terror groups they have adopted the Zionist playbook that was used against the British in Palestine before 1946. I do not know what the answer is but I do know that we would never allow any separatist group to bomb our cities. The FLQ stuck to post boxes mostly and so far no separatist group has taken to blowing up civilians in our city markets. If China was really evil they would fund people to commit terror attacks in North America but that is NATO's playbook so we have the privilege of being safe on our streets while decrying other nations as totalitarian for their response to the proxies our spy agencies pay to kill civilians in other countries.

Since 2007, over 1,000 people have been killed and over 1,200 people have been injured in China as a result of attacks by Uyghur separatists on innocent civilians.

Justice?

Today, the world is talking about the “concentration camps”. #CloseTheCamps is trending on Twitter. Congressmen and congresswomen have called out the atrocities of “Communist China”.

When will anybody speak for the victims of atrocious attacks perpetrated by the Uyghurs? The mother who will never see her child, the father who will never return home? Who will pay for the heinous crimes of these Uyghur terrorists? Why is the world silent?

Just have to jump in and say that there are Uighur terrorist groups, but the Uighur people as a whole are not a terrorist group.

I know, I know, the Tiananmen Square Massacre never happened.

And legitimate protest is allowed to continue in Hong Kong too.

Chinese Labour Unions. Please don’t make me laugh too hard.

The Chinese dictatorship in cahoots with the techies are creating a file on every single person in China. Why? If you get into a disagreement with one of the Commie officials you will have it documented in some secret government file so that if you ever apply for a passport to vacation abroad you will probably be refused. Human rights, eh. The Chinese don’t know how to spell the words.

And what’s with the Chinese persecution of the Dali Lama in Tibet.

Why would I want to go and live in China!

NorthReport

Just the million or so that are in Chinese concentration camps are terrorists.

I’m obviously being facetious.

That is absolutely true and that is the problem with detaining people based on ethnicity and religion. I don't know the answer but it looks like the "camps" are substantially better than what the millions of Syrian refugees are living in as a result of the same forces attacking its cities. It also appears that people are leaving them after their indoctrination sessions.

I can't imagine living in a place where foreign governments are funding groups that bomb public places indiscriminately. I think the decrying of this response is a type of privilege but not male or race privilege but imperial citizen privilege. We never have to deal with the worst that is on offer on the planet because it is mostly our agencies that fund groups to destabilize sovereign governments.

swallow swallow's picture

I have no idea which camps are worse, they both sound truly terrible.

Chinese government response to the Uighur Muslims strikes me as similar to the US government response to Muslims - treat them all as a threat.

How easily some forget they themselves live illegally on stolen lands, colonized and  genocided, in a vicious, racist settler-state of still resisted occupations. O Canada our home on native land is a disgusting and servile, collaborating vassal of  imperialist predatory monsters styled for Canadian liberals as 'feminist foreign policy.' A Vichy regime to the greatest evil empire the world has ever seen.

How vile then their smug and assumed moral superiority, their fervent fake news certainties and finger-pointing at official designated enemies like China, Russia, Syria or Iran,  their willful blindness to anything but their masters' malevolent mainstream media demonizations and incitements for the latest  'humanitarian intervention', 'regime change' and the 'rules based international order'.

I suspect that the imperialist corporate media's demonization of China over the Uyghur people's in 新疆 is related to this possible replacement for 习近平. 他的姓名是张春贤

http://chinavitae.com/biography/Zhang_Chunxian%7C733

Here's a perspective from China on 新疆

http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2019-07/05/c_138202285.htm

I believe that the economic progress happening right now in Xin Jiang province as reported from Xin Hua is reliable.

It falls in line with the Communist Party of China's policy to lift it's people's out of poverty (a policy that the west is yet to adopt, but for some reason, Justin has a ministry of democracy instead?)

The violent seperatists in Xin Jiang province, like other cia operatives, feed on the poor desperate and needy. As the provinces peoples are lifted out of poverty and enjoy a higher standard of living, these operatives are further excluded by all the populations peoples. The imperialist corporate media are propably grasping onto any last hope of demonizing China and any possible future president of China

Looking before we leap: Weighing the risks of US-China disengagement

For both Washington and Beijing, the patient rebuilding of a rules-based order, not the assertion of unilateral advantage by either, remains the only credible path forward. Rather than mirror-image Chinese xenophobic or paranoid behavior, the United States should insist on reciprocity in the relationship to promote openness, move aggressively to open China’s markets, welcome Chinese visitors and researchers, and defend our allies. The United States also needs to fix its own broken domestic politics and mitigate the downsides of globalization at home to diminish the gratuitous scapegoating of China. Without such efforts, the region and the world will inevitably move toward open-ended rivalry, or worse—from which no country, including the United States, can possibly benefit.

Echoes of WWII: Pompeo Goes on South Pacific Blitz to 'Counter China'

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/465852-pompeo-micronesia-china/

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo paid a historic visit to three South Pacific island nations, hyping fears of Chinese infuence to extend their protectorate treaties with Washington in what looks like a return to WWII thinking. Landing on the island of Pohnpei on Monday, Pompeo became the first US Secretary of State to visit Micronesia.

Meeting with the leaders of the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands and Palau, he called the little island nations 'big strongholds of freedom' and urged them to side with the US rather than China in the current jockeying for power over the Pacific Ocean. By needlessly injecting scaremongering about China into relations with long-term Pacific protectorates, Pompeo may only have made the ongoing US dispute with Beijing that much worse."
