President Rodrigo Duterte's "war on drugs" has been going on for over two years. His death squads have murdered over 20,000 people. During this time there has been a normalization of extra judicial killings, impunity for death squads, and the vilification of human rights defenders.
These massacres has had a chilling effect on on urban, working-class communities in the Philippines, terrorizing millions of people. Nevertheless, opposition and organizing against this repression is growing by the day.
Jennifer Binegas from Movement Against Tyranny (MAT) was recently in Melbourne, Australia. APC managed to catch up to her and explore with Jennifer how labour and human rights activists are fighting back against the government and Duterte's death squads.
Asia Pacific Currents provides updates of labour struggles and campaigns from the Asia Pacific region. It is produced by Australia Asia Worker Links, in the studio of 3CR Radio in Melbourne, Australia

Help make rabble sustainable. Please consider supporting our work with a monthly donation. Support rabble.ca today for as little as $1 per month!
Thank you for reading this story...
More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all. But media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our only supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help.
If everyone who visits rabble and likes it chipped in a couple of dollars per month, our future would be much more secure and we could do much more: like the things our readers tell us they want to see more of: more staff reporters and more work to complete the upgrade of our website.
We’re asking if you could make a donation, right now, to set rabble on solid footing.
