All around the world -- from Quebec to Greece to Chile to South Africa -- tens of thousands of people are rising up against austerity.
It's time for the rest of us to rise up too!

Governments and corporate media say there is not enough money and belts must be tightened. But we know there is lots of money -- it's just concentrated in a few hands at the top.
Cuts to social spending and wages ensue, while fossil fuel companies and other corporations receive subsidies. Unions are attacked, as corporations make record profits. Indigenous nations are denied inherent land rights and resources from their lands are extracted for corporate profit. Environmental regulations are gutted in favour of Big Oil rights. Migrant workers are forced into even more precarious working conditions. Vital public services including education, child care, housing, women's centers and health care are cut, while prisons and the military expand.
In essence, austerity is sacrificing the common good for corporate profit. To see the many ways we are affected by austerity, check out this website: http://www.uniteagainstausterity.ca/.
Almost everyone is affected by austerity policies, but we are typically isolated in our struggles. By building grassroots power and solidarity, we can develop a united front against austerity. Let's examine the austerity agenda and generate unity across Indigenous, feminist, migrant, environmentalist, student, peace, anti-poverty, labour, and diverse community movements.
Join us for a conversation on connecting across struggles and building an anti-austerity movement in Toronto.
The speaker panel will be followed by a community discussion. The event is free. Snacks will be served.

Let's build our power!
Thank you for reading this story…
More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all, while striving to make it sustainable as well. Media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our main supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help. You are what keep us sustainable.
rabble.ca has staked its existence on you. We live or die on community support -- your support! We get hundreds of thousands of visitors and we believe in them. We believe in you. We believe people will put in what they can for the greater good. We call that sustainable.
So what is the easy answer for us? Depend on a community of visitors who care passionately about media that amplifies the voices of people struggling for change and justice. It really is that simple. When the people who visit rabble care enough to contribute a bit then it works for everyone.
And so we’re asking you if you could make a donation, right now, to help us carry forward on our mission. Make a donation today.
