Wonder why she stayed quiet? Maybe because, as the article states:

she was expected to hold a prominent role in pushing an agenda of improved health care for Americans
Now (again according to the article):
quote:
"Their [John and Elizabeth Edwards] big challenge is convincing people that they will continue to be active in politics and they're going to continue to have a voice."
So basically her cheating husband ruined any hope she'd have had at making a difference in things of great personal concern to her such as improving healthcare in the US. I wouldn't fault her for wanting to have that chance, wishing that despite her husband ruining their marriage she'd still be able to do something positive for millions of Americans.

So they found one source they could name and some anonymice on dkos who criticized her and this allows for a headline that says she was "blasted?" (There are some other named sources but only one who is actually critical of Mrs. Edwards.) And they waited two weeks and then put this up on the second day of the Democratic convention. But of course there's no agenda here.
