John McCain dies

I first heard of this news on Chinese news station CCTV4.

I'm going to keep the tone of this thread opener down a few notches.

Let the ranting begin!

quizzical

ranting?

i am sorta sad for the US. the only voice of sanity they had in the Republican party.

alan smithee alan smithee's picture

He was the only voice of reason during the Trump era. I can't look beyond his  Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran satire of Barbra Anne. He was a real big hawk. But I still think it was awesome when some decrepid old hag accused Obama of being a Muslim during one of his Presidential campaign rallies in 2008 and he shut her the fuck up.

Mixed feelings.

cco

Well, he shut her up by saying "He's not an Arab, he's a good man." So yeah. My feelings aren't all that mixed.

23 bombing runs over Vietnam. The man was a mass murderer and got lionized for serving 6 years in prison. He was a racist (said he'd never stop calling Vietnamese "gooks", voted against MLK day until it became politically inconvenient to do so) and someone who never met a war he didn't like, not to mention a crook.

It's totally unsurprising the Clintons are fawning over him. Canadians who think Trump excuses McCain's crimes should be ready to defend Trump when President Richard Spencer opens up the gas chambers.

Have a little patience. When i get the chance, I'm going to rip a new asshole into this clown 50 times over. I'm looking forward to it!

Speaking of patience, nice of you to wait until he died.

"Watch me kick this corpse in the head!  If he weren't already dead, he'd wish he was!!".

cco

When someone dies, it's natural for there to be an outpouring of sympathy, followed by tributes about what a wonderful human being they were. It's also, therefore, natural for there to be criticism when the dead person was a horrible human being.

Most of us don't spend every day writing invective against Robert Pickton. But if he died tomorrow, and the news were full of stories about how he was a Canadian patriot unjustly imprisoned, I daresay a fair number of us would step forward to offer the truth. Not because we were too cowardly to say anything against him while he was alive. Just because you can only take so much hagiography of pieces of shit before it's necessary to provide a counterweight.

"If you want to see a world with more and more John McCains, with more and more US wars of aggression and regime change interventions, then by all means play right along with his public beatification..."

Noops

Let's put it this way. I for one sure won't be missing him.

NDPP

But I think it's significant that 'progressive's  can now support  the political positions of someone like this and still call themselves 'on the left' with a straight face. There was a time not so long ago if someone came onto this board raving about the Kremlin and 'Russian stooges,'  supported regime change in Venezuela or odious reactionary war-hawks like John McCain, they would be recognized as right not left. Not anymore. Scary. As is the silent surrender by those who know better. Although the classic texts say that hiding or accommodation is what bourgeois liberals always do.

"John McCain had the courage not to stoop to divisive politics. He showed us that we can disagree in a way that creates dialogue and discussion, not fear and division. Rest in Peace." - Jagmeet Singh, NDP

https://twitter.com/theJagmeetSingh/status/1033878954661371904

Perhaps he refers to McCain voting against sanctions on Apartheid South Africa. Six times.?

Perhaps he means  McCain's quote in 2000, "I hate the Gooks and I shall hate them for as long as I live.' Or publicly calling his wife 'a c*nt and a trollop'? Or was it the similarity to NDP foreign policy preferences as in Israel, Ukraine or "Gadaffi's gone, Assad is next?"

Maybe, when all said and done, they really are pretty much all in the same club. Glad I'm not.

Oh for God’s sake, I was no fan of the man, but we’re not talking Stalin here.  He had some progressive achievements, like campaign finance, that was eviscerated by the Supreme Court.  And his final vote was to keep “Obamacare” alive.  Not that it’s any great shakes.  One interesting side note, his mother is still alive at 106.

It would be unnecessary to remind everyone of his crimes, if leftist icons were not lavishing so much praise on him for not being Donald Trump.

Lovely! Hope her next offspring learn from past errors.

There’s a political calculation to the praise.  Since Trump vetoed a statement praising him by name.

This McCain character was a real special kind of evil imperialist war pig piece of useless garbage humen being! Here's my first link.

http://revcom.us/a/501/john-mccain-war-criminal-for-u-s-imperialism-en.html

Ya you're a real special kind of war pig, it's all about you hey McCain?

http://www.unz.com/article/mccain-and-the-pow-cover-up/

And this is what you would expect from a warpig

https://truthuncensored.net/john-songbird-mccain-exposed-vietnam-vets-an...

The war pig became a senator during the Reagan years, so I suspect alot of bullshit was fabricated to glorify him. And at the same time, anything that may remotely sound embarassing was covered up.

This scum bag came from war lord royalty! Was a war pig protigy nurtured and advanced, to promote his philosophy of tyranny he held so dearly. Took Obama under his wing as his personal protege and plotted with his fellow tyrants.

This one's for you McCain. Lets never forget what you really are. A war pig!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQUXuQ6Zd9w

NDPP

No surprise either to find this warpig being remembered so fondly by the war-pig left, whose positions (Libya, Ukraine, Syria etc) are/were similar to his. Just wait till Kissinger, Bush or another of these American imperial monsters next goes, we'll get more of the same. It's disgusting and should be recognized and denounced as such. Shame on Jagmeet Singh.

John McCain Is the Perfect American Lie

quote:

Today, Senate Republicans moved one step closer to dismantling Obamacare, potentially leaving millions of people uninsured, jacking up their premiums, and letting insurance companies cover only what they feel like covering. John McCain voted for that bill of course he did. He has always been a big talker, but when it comes to the actual meat-and-potatoes voting process, he falls in line. He didn’t do the right thing. He didn’t even come within 500 yards of doing the right thing. For the past two decades, he has never done the right thing. He’s a fraud. Alex Pareene had him nailed ages ago. In fact, it’s “nice” Republicans like McCain who provide cover for evil swine like Mitch McConnell, allowing them to gut the American security net and fuck over anyone who doesn’t live behind an iron gate.

But that didn’t stop McCain from having the gall—the unmitigated, repulsive GALL—to stand up in front of the Senate today and put on his Maverick jammies and deliver a sermon bashing the very non-legislation that, only minutes earlier, he had flown cross-country to help will into being:

quote:

This is vile. John McCain was never anyone’s white knight. This is the man who ushered in the age of troll candidacies by tapping Sarah Palin as his running mate. This is the man who caved to Donald Trump even after Trump had the audacity to mock his time as a POW. This is the man who called his own wife a cunt in public. This is a man who has spent all this time acting as if all the Bad Republicans were forcing him to go along with their nefarious deeds while voting in lockstep with them. He is not a reluctant Republican. He’s a shitbag, same as the rest of them.

Le Devoir's François Brousseau and Le Journal de Montréal's Josée Legault both write admiringly of McCain.  Its Trump... Had McCain died during Obama's reign it would have been different.  Brousseau is le Devoir and Radio-Canada's foreign affairs guru. He perhaps more than anyone dictates how a lot of literary Québecois see the world.  Thanks for all the good links to NDPP, etc.

Yes, a lot of this praise for McCain is a bankshot attack on a Trump.

Mr. Magoo

I think that if Stalin died today, lots of people would find something nice to say about him.

Heck, he died decades ago, and some people still have nice things to say about him.

I'm not suggesting this is a left/right thing, or that the left is "even worse", but people seem to like to say nice things about someone after they've just croaked, even if they've done questionable things, but moreso if they've done a few good things along with the questionable things.

Jagmeet was also charitable when Castro died.

Stalin was instrumental in defeating the Nazis.  As detestable as he was, that’s deserving of praise, or at least acknowledgment and credit.

All this outpouring for McCain as far as I'm concerned only shows that McCain was a central war lord plotting and mapping out the imperial American course.

It's kind of symbolic, as the US imperial war machine is starting to diminish, one of it's war lord cheerleeders dies. The death of one of the American imperial central war lords should slow down the war machine a little we should hope
