Overthrown Egyptian President Morsy dies in courtroom during his "trial".

According to the Egyptian military, Morsy died of a "heart attack"-minutes before he was to speak at his "trial"-I put that word in quotes because it goes without saying that he was going to be found guilty in what is clearly a kangaroo court proceeding.

I disagree sharply with Morsy's politics-and his victory in the elections was largely due to the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood was the only opposition party the Nasser-Sadat-Mubarak regime tolerated-but anyone would have to look at the sudden passing of this man, in this situation, with extreme suspicion. I mean, the man dies right before being allowed to speak in his own defense for the first time in the proceedings?

Both spellings are correct. The Arabic alphabet doesn't have one-to-one transliteration with the Latin one. (Look at the 32 different ways to spell Muammar Kaddafi.)

By contrast, there is only one way to spell the name of the man in charge of the NATO air-war component in the butchery of Gaddafi's country. Lt-Gen Charles 'the butcher' Bouchard. And instead of him ending up sodomized by a bayonet before eventually being shot in the head with his own revolver - his murder to be famously laughed at by the US Sec State, crooked Hillary Clinton before later being displayed for selfies in a large Benghazi meat-locker our glorious Libyan Al Qaeda allies commandeered for the purpose. [a suitable end for such a war criminal, surely?] The same who now openly sell Afrikan slaves in their markets.

By contrast, our Charles was rewarded with multiple medals and awards of courage for his baby burnings and successful back to the stone-age bombing campaign in which he was responsible for all targeting, a victory parade and kudos all around including from the ndp who called his imperialist 'heavy lifting' CF losers 'heroes', and a very posh and prestigious well paying gig in appreciation from NATO and a grateful state, as CEO of Lockheed Martin Canada. The F-35 people. And not a word of 'warcrimes' to be heard since, at least not in nice company.

Egypt, unlike the awful 'dictatorship' of Khaddaffi's Libya, must surely be a better place right? Because after all it is Canada's 'friend'. Israel's too. And given our PM is so very forward thinking and progressive, [all the newspapers say so as is our Foreign Minister who is so unafraid of snotty tweeting our arms customer Saudi Arabia], well then surely Egypt must be good like us too, no?

Apparently not.There's a whole country full of this sort of thing going on now and the death rate is quite high. Although not a 'genocide' it's bad there. This is just a quick grab of whatever was closest to hand, but you'll get the general idea. Too bad about that 'Arab Spring' going south the way it did sometimes. I'm sure Canada did the very best they could in a bad situation right? And after all, Washington was/is the 'lead hand' we follow. Everybody knows that.

So...from that response, it looks as though most of what you got out of this thread was the bizarre assumption that I started it to let Canada and the rest of the West off the hook for their misdeeds. I hope you don't actually believe that was my intent.

Africa is/was a colonized continent struggling over and over. I’m sure you’re fully aware.

I personally wish the west would stop interfering with Africa’s internal affairs and treat Africans as equals.

I'm against Western interference in non-Western countries' affairs and I DO treat Africans as equals. That doesn't mean people of conscience who happen to live in the West have no right to express opinions about the death of President Morsy, or to speak out against injustices in non-Western countries.

We can't just say that non-Western governments get to do whatever the hell they want to do to the people they govern. The fact that a country was colonized and is still processing the effects of colonialism doesn't mean that anything that country's government does gets an automatic exemption from critique. And, for that matter, the re-establishment of the military dictatorship in Egypt was largely abetted by Western governments, so it can't be imperialism to condemn what happened in this courtroom. A government is just a government, wherever you go.
